President’s Message: A Few Thoughts for Your Consideration We got 2012 off to a great start with the Hangover 5K and the annual awards banquet. Besides the fact that these were successful and well attended events, it was a great relief that they took place as scheduled without the weather related rescheduling that occurred in 2011.
We all know about the weather related issues we had in 2011. That’s enough about that. Many good things also occurred in 2011. This was brought about by increased participation by veteran and new members in our club’s activities. For example, we had increased attendance at our (more or less) monthly club meetings and a generous willingness of many members to volunteer at the club’s events.
Of the many ways to measure this, here are a few statistics that show increased member participation:
CJRRC Triple Award: 31 club members ran in and/or volunteered at our club’s three races.
USATF Championship Race Participation: 9 club members ran on our teams or volunteered at 9 or more USATF Championship races to get a sweatshirt and 5 did between 6 and 8 races to get a tee shirt.
USATF Teams: 37 club members ran on one or more of the club’s teams at USATF Championship races.
And last but certainly not least, the impressive list of our USATF New Balance Grand Prix winners for 2011 is presented on page 11 of this newsletter. Of special note, our Men’s 80 – 89 team swept the overall individual category with Nat Finestone 1st; Joe La Bruno 2nd and Bill Welsh 3rd. A few photos from the Annual USATF-NJ Awards Banquet can be found on page 10.
Thanks to all for what you did in 2011 and let’s keep it going in 2012.

CJRRC Member Exclusive Event Beat Bob Boyd 5k report
The Third Annual Beat Bob Boyd 5 K was held on December 18, 2011 at Colonia High School. Although there were only 13 runners, many were repeat contestants and tried their best to beat me. Actually, 6 beat me, and I beat 6. Mark Leary won the race for the third time to continue his dominance. Joe LaBruno got lost, and we had to send out some search parties. It was comforting to see the runners willing to delay receiving their coveted Beat Bob Boyd awards to find Joe, but he came first. He missed a turn and ended up running about 4 miles. The runners liked the low key, low pressure atmosphere with focus on camaraderie. Hopefully this event will grow next year. Mark your calendars for December 23, 2012!
Join us for the CENTRAL JERSEY TRIPLE! What is the CENTRAL JERSEY TRIPLE?
